I stood still, on a road deserted
Having travelled far, still miles to go
I look back not, as memories surround
In twilight’s silence, my midnight madness.
I’d sampled love, under the cherry blossom tree
And drowned my soul, in the whirlpools of lust
Unafraid of thunder, I’d forged ahead
Broke those rules, for you were my ‘One’.
Your words I’d carved, deep into my soul
No speech or demonstration, just unwavering commitment
My love was simple, no wasteful declaration
Our little moments filled, my life’s empty chest.
But that which grew underwater, floating in currents unbound
Struggled for terrestrial sustenance, confronting new challenges
Those dismissive nods, wrapped in curt commands
Shrivelled in inanition, the strings woven in elation.
A dead husk I’ve carried, buried deep within
Meandering down memory lane, the slippery slope of youth
That glitch in time, where I’d paused to ponder
In twilight’s silence, our midnight madness.
