Share Your World #16

Melanie has posed these questions in her series Share Your World 7/6/21 which are quite fun to answer.

What’s the worst commercial you’ve recently seen (or heard)? Why was it so bad?

I don’t watch a lot of commercials, as I watch movies and shows on the streaming platforms like Netflix & Amazon Prime. But I intensely dislike the skin whitening product commercials, as they’re responsible for propagating the idea for fair skin being the only standard for beauty.

In a country with around half or more of the population being dark skinned, these skewed notions of beauty are extremely damaging.

What takes a lot of time but is totally worth it?

Baking! All the measuring, mixing and then eagerly waiting for my delicious dessert!

Have you ever smiled at a stranger and then wished you hadn’t? Why or why not?

I don’t smile at strangers. I’ve been told I’ve got a resting sombre (or bitch) face, depending on who you ask. I smile only if I recognise someone.

What do you think is the nastiest tasting food?  (This one might be a recycled question.  It’s familiar to me anyhow)

Though I do try new dishes, I usually know the type of food that’ll agree with me and am reasonably sure of the taste meeting my palate standard. So, I can’t recall the last time I had something that was truly awful.

Gratitude Section

Are you at peace with yourself? Your world? Please share, whether you said “yay” or “nay”!

Definitely not at peace with the way things are going on around the world.

I believe that there are few people who are really, truly at peace with themselves. I think I’ll reach that state of mind someday; but for now I’ll work on being a better version of myself.

  1. Those skin whitening creams are the worst! I love baking too and it’s totally worth the time, effort and the mess. I don’t smile at strangers too but now with the mask, you can’t tell if anyone is smiling at you or not.

    1. I just get impatient for my treat when mixing the batter, even after licking my fingers. 🤭
And yes, wearing the mask has saved me from having to smile or engage in lengthy conversations with some of my ‘can-talk-the-ears-off’ neighbours 😜
      Thanks for reading! 😊

      1. I know. I do end up licking the batter all in the guise of checking the taste 😂 After all, I’m entitled to a maker’s treat!
Lol, I’m glad that you’ve got a way to escape those neighbours. Thank God for masks indeed 😉

  2. Even I hate those commercials! I have a love hate relationship with baking XD People say that I’m too nice because I smile at anyone I pass through. And with time, I’ve come to realise that it’s not the best thing in the world to smile at EVERYONE. But now it doesn’t matter because there’s always a mask on my face and I can smile all the time! XD And I hope you find that peace within yourself soon. Loved reading your honest answers ♥

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting, Sonali 😍
It’s nice that you smile at people, even if they may not return it- this shows your sunny disposition! 😊 Keep smiling, dear
Some days are tough, but they’re worth the days where I can enjoy happiness and peace 💚

    1. Yes, I find it frustrating as well, that even now these cosmetics are some of the most popular products amongst educated, modern Indians. I just don’t get our obsession with fair skin! 😑
Thanks for reading and commenting! 🤗

  3. Thanks, Priya for Sharing Your World! If you smile even occasionally at other people, you do better than I do. I almost NEVER smile at anyone. Been told off about that too..I guess you can’t please everyone all the time, right? I found the skin whitening comment very interesting. I never knew people did that, but in my day nobody worried about really blindingly white teeth either, which I find equally as stupid an idea. We ought to be happy with what we have, shouldn’t we? I guess it has to do with the quest to find ourselves at peace, hmm? Have a great week!

    1. 😊 Thanks Melanie!
Yes, I agree. We should be happy or atleast learn to accept the colours and shapes of our body and its parts. It’s the way we were naturally created, each of us unique and beautiful.
🤩 Have a good week ahead!

  4. Agree with you on advertisement, but toilet cleaners advertisements while you eat are also annoying🤣
I love people who bake, its because of them i get to eat cake😍❤️
We’ll all be a lot more peaceful when we’ll be able to step out of our homes without the fear of contracting this deadly virus.😑

    1. I know 😂
Absolutely! I wish this would all just go away over-night and we woke up to a new, Corona-free world.
      Thanks a lot, Mansha 😊
